5 Essential Steps to Get Your Business Up and Running Digitally

If your customers are small business owners, having their doors closed for any reason makes it all but impossible to operate business as usual. For many, switching to a more digital business model may help keep them in business. Below are five essential steps that small businesses can take to help make this transition.

1) Reach out to customers
Their first order of business is to retain their current customers by letting them know they’re still around and open for business.

2) Set up or update your website
If they don’t already have one, they’ll need to set up a website quickly to gain visibility, and to also form a hub for their sales and operations.

3) Get social
Now is the best time to set up a social media presence to promote their business and stay in touch with your customers. Depending on their customers, Facebook and Instagram may have the broadest reach, but Twitter and LinkedIn are also great options.

4) Deliver the goods
Some companies, such as small food and beverage operations, can do curbside pickup. Others need to mail items. This is a component that will be largely based on your customer’s business and locale, but there are probably more digital alternatives to consider than they might realize.

5) Engage your employees
The sudden change in operations can be particularly dramatic for your customer’s employees. It is vital that they are as transparent as possible to ease concerns. They should explain the new ways of operating and be working together.
